SAP General Information
Are you a licensed
professional looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community should
a disaster strike?
Join us on Saturday
March 29 for a day-long Safety Assessment Program (SAP) training
session, recognized by the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES). This training provides professional licensed architects,
engineers, and certified building officials and inspectors the
knowledge to assist local governments in safety evaluation of the built
environment in the aftermath of a disaster.
SAP produces two resources; SAP
Evaluators (for licensed professionals and building and safety personnel) and SAP Coordinators (non-licensed citizens).
SAP Evaluator trainees who successfully complete the program will receive registration ID certification cards valid for three years.

Evaluator and Coordinator trainees will train in a 7-hour long day, with one
15-minute break in the morning, 45-minute lunch break, and one 15-minute break in
the afternoon. Coordinator trainees must take an additional 1-hour training
focusing on their specific tasks as supporters to the Evaluators.
Lee is one of 200 certified instructors in California. He has been involved with the design and development of governmental facilities, Class A medical and professional office facilities, specialty retail and the custom-luxury housing market throughout southern California. He is a licensed architect in the State of California and has been designated as a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) by the Division of the State Architect. His practice focuses upon sustainable product and accessibility in design. He serves as a Director for the California Building Officials in Sacramento and has been chair of CALBO’s State License Boards Committee, Board liaison to the Access Committee, Commissioner with the CALBO Training Institute. He is a graduate of the School of Environmental Design at Cal Poly, Pomona and is a professor at Mt. San Antonio College in the Architectural and Construction Technologies programs. Additionally, he has also taught at the University of California, Riverside in the Business and Technology Construction Management and Interior Design programs and has provided consulting education to private industry and the California Building Officials and American Planning Associations

There are two other documents that an evaluator needs in the field: ATC 20 - to evaluate post earthquake events and ATC 45 - to evaluate post flood events. These documents are not needed for the class but can be purchased from Applied Technology Council. It is not mandatory to have these at the time of the training, however they will be needed to fulfill your tasks in the field.
