Installing Officer

Jana Itzen, AIA, Itzen Architects, Inc.
President, AIA California Council

Jana’s love and appreciation for the built environment formed early in life through her many travels and the various states in which she’s lived. As the daughter of a Major League Baseball player, she has lived in 12 different states and 2 other countries… Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Venezuela and Canada. Experiencing how cities and spaces function continue to intrigue her as she explores new places with her architect husband and two boys.

A graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Jana developed her focus on sustainability and the art of communicating ideas through hand sketches. While studying abroad in Brisbane, Australia, Jana’s appreciation for environmentally sensitive design solutions grew through traveling and exploring the architectural world down under. During this time in Australia, Jana had her first internships working for two different architectural firms that still employed hand drafting. To this day Jana is always ready to sketch a thought, idea, or concept be it to a client, co-worker, or a 6 year old.

Directly out of school she worked at KTGY honing her skills in the fast paced residential environment, requiring expert communication and presentation skills. Her projects ranged from award winning compact condo communities to luxury single family home developments in the Phoenix metro area. Shifting focus towards the public sector, Jana started working for LPA Inc.; projects included several city halls, libraries, and police stations. Among these notable projects, were High Desert Government Center (LEED Gold) and Hesperia Police Department (LEED Gold), with solar panels generating more than 90% of the building’s power - all part of the Civic Center Master Plan for the City of Hesperia.
In 2011 she started her own firm, ITZEN Architects, Inc.
