Scholarships

The Chapter has always been committed to nurturing young architects and providing them with the skills to succeed, as well as to be creative and responsible members of the profession. Through providing relevant programming we strive to instill in them the desire for true design excellence and to fuel their passion for architecture.

Additionally the Chapter has for many years reached out to educational institutions and collaborated with their leaders in providing scholarships to their students. The Chapter administers two Jean Roth Driskel Scholarships with each being supplemented by a grant from the National AIA.

The Jean Roth Driskel Scholarship Awards

In 1971, The JRD Scholarship was established in the name of the first woman Chapter President, Jean Roth Driskel, FAIA, to honor her great love for and dedication to the profession of architecture.

The JRD scholarships are annually awarded to two students: one a local Community College student and one a local University student in recognition of their dedication, enthusiasm and ability in the field of architecture. Nominated by their schools, the Community College student candidate must have been accepted to an NAAB accredited program for a first professional architectural degree. The university student candidate must be in their penultimate year of an NAAB accredited program for a first professional architectural degree.

Since April 1990, the funds for this scholarship program have been held and administered by the California Community Foundation (CCF), an established and well-respected 501 C-3 organization (www.calfund.org).

The winning students are the Chapter’s guests at the Installation Gala and are recognized in the Chapter's monthly newsletter.
