NCRA and Great Central Insurance partner to provide P&C insurance to members
A member of Argonaut Group, Inc.’s specialty commercial segment, Great Central Insurance Company and the NCRA are working together to provide property and casualty insurance to its restaurant members.
“The NCRA is excited about the opportunity to partner with a company that has provided insurance for the restaurant industry in North Carolina for so many years,” said NCRA President and CEO Paul M. Stone, CAE. “NCRA members will benefit from the experience, broad coverage and competitive products Great Central offers.”
As an endorsed provider, Great Central will offer its specialized restaurant package, commercial auto and umbrella coverage to NCRA members distributed through a select network of agents statewide.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Great Central,” said John Polak, president and CEO of Great Central Insurance. “The NCRA is an exceptional trade organization with a long history of commitment and service to its members. This partnership will combine our unique products and services with a solid portfolio of other member services currently provided by the association and will enhance both of our organizations.”
Great Central has specialized in serving restaurateurs since 1934 and is recognized as the leader in providing insurance and risk management service to the restaurant and hotel/motel industry. In addition to the NCRA endorsement, Great Central is the endorsed carrier for several other state restaurant and other trade associations.
Members of Argonaut Group underwrite specialty commercial insurance in four major segments of the market: excess and surplus, risk management, specialty commercial and public entity. The excess and surplus segment provides coverage to those who have been rejected by standard line insurers due to the risks related to their business. The risk management segment provides casualty risk management solutions to those who want to share in the risk and are committed to partnering in proactive safety and claims management. The specialty commercial segment provides tailor-made products and services for food merchants, restaurants, churches, dry cleaners and coal mines. The public entity segment provides P&C insurance to government entities, municipalities and school districts.

Every year on October 6, Americans of German descent have the opportunity to celebrate their ancestry. Proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan as German-American Day in 1987, it is an ethnic holiday which affords German Americans an opportunity to recall their history, their contributions and their achievements.
German Americans continue to represent the largest ethnic group in the United States. According to the 2000 Census, 43 million Americans claim German ancestry, representing 15 percent of the total population. While parts of the Midwest, Pennsylvania, and Texas still proudly bear the stamp of the large German populations of the last century, it is their widespread assimilation and far-reaching activities that have earned German Americans a distinguished reputation in all regions of the United States and in all walks of life.
From Fred Astaire to Henry Kissinger, German American inventors, scientists, political leaders, physicians, civic leaders, entrepreneurs, lawyers, judges, artists, poets, explorers, novelists, and those in other fields have made significant contributions to the quality of life we all enjoy.
Yet, even these many distinguished names cannot begin to summarize all the gifts that German-Americans have brought to our nation's history (see Germans In America).

Volunteers Are Needed!
The TAHRA College Relations Committee is seeking HR Professionals to volunteer to serve as mentors and/or provide job shadowing opportunities for college students seeking a career in Human Resources during the Spring & Summer semesters in 2006.
If you would like to volunteer, please send the following information to Robin Crouch at firstname.lastname@example.org:
- Job Title
- Preferred Contact Method (E-Mail or Phone)
- Certification (if any)
- HR Subspecialty (Generalist, ER, Recruitment, Benefits, Compensation, Employment Law/Compliance,

Once we compile a list of volunteers, we will match you with an interested student and allow you to coordinate the details of the mentorship/job shadow. We already have a list of students waiting for mentors! You may devote as little or as much time as you'd like.
We ask that you take advantage of this opportunity to inspire future HR professionals.
NOTE: Individual volunteers will be responsible for ensuring their own confidentiality of proprietary information and protection against other liabilities. TAHRA is merely serving as a conduit to connect HR professionals with HR students.
