President’s Message
April/May 2018

“What does the AIA do for me?”

I hear that all the time, so let me tell you what our chapter has been up to.

Programs, Programs, Programs! During the year AIAPF strives to provide programs of professional interest so you get all 18 LUs required for membership. And we try to make these programs FREE. In the first quarter of 2018 we’ve offered programs on Social Media, New Hiring Laws that affect your practice, Title 24 changes and Net Zero Energy. 6 LUs so far and there’s lots more great stuff planned!

Emerging Professionals. Our Chapter office has ARE study materials available to help young professionals get licensed and we’re getting ready to add CSE study material to pass that pesky California test. We have links to even more material and resources through the AIACC. Check us out!

Professional Resources. Did you know you can’t ask job applicants for salary history? Do you pay your male and female employees equitably?

AIA publishes a biannual Compensation Report and the Chapter has the 2017 copy available for reference so you can check out how you stack up. The chapter website has links to AIA Contract Documents and AIA National for an entire library of resources on design trends, best practices and new products.

Advocacy. California has the advantage of being large enough to be its own AIA Region and that allows the region to focus on issues specific to California and state legislative issues that affect the profession. What’s coming up that you should know about? Come hear Mark Christian, AIACC Director of Government Relations speak to us about just that on May 4!

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

The AIAPF chapter has a great group of dedicated architects who volunteer to strategize, plan and organize programs and events that are of interest to you.

AND any new AIA membership means free registration to the AIA Conference A’18 in New York City in June so tell your co-workers and colleagues.

Check out the website – aiapf.org! Come take advantage of a free program! Network with chapter members!

See just what the AIA IS doing for you!

Sincerely,

Carol Lanham, AIA

2018 Chapter President
