Therese Lahaie

Therese Lahaie is a lightologist. Her expertise in glass technology launched her career in custom lighting, and her love of collaboration led her to work with nationally recognized lighting designers at Translite Sonoma/Lightolier and Morrison Lighting.

As a light practitioner she had an early interest in LED lighting. At the time, the technology was rife with challenges and she recognized the potential that LED technology held for designers, and that they would require technical training. Her company, Apparatus Design and its training program, Innovators in LED Lighting, was created to help designers make the best use of this technology. Today, Therese is an independent consultant who connects designers and manufacturers with LED lighting solutions. She has helped over 4000 design professionals gain fluency through her AIA HSW, Innovators in LED Lighting presentations.

Therese has served as program advisor for the light and architecture conference Lightspace California, juror for the architectural lighting competition 40under40 North America, and LED Magazine Sapphire Awards. She has also been a guest speaker at Lightfair International, Strategies in Light, and events at ASID, DLF, KNBA and the Bay Area Student Design Symposium.

Therese has an active career as an artist working in the medium of light. Some of her projects include the public art installation Crossing Signal Mosaic, and sculptural works in the collections of the Crocker Art Museum and the DiRosa Collection in California, the Corning Museum of Glass Contemporary Collection in New York, and the Glasmuseet Ebeltoft in Denmark

Azusa is trilingual (English, Japanese, Spanish) and was born  in Kyoto, Japan. She subsequently lived in Cairo, London, Los  Angeles, and New York. After graduating from the University of  Redlands with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, she  decided to pursue her original passions – art and architecture  through continuing education at UCLA, where she first  discovered lighting design. She was immediately fascinated  with illumination and the interplay between both the technical  and artistic aspects of lighting, and decided to pursue a career  as a lighting designer. Azusa received her Master of Fine Arts  in Architectural Lighting Design from the renowned Master’s  program at Parsons The New School of Design where she refined  her skills.
