Tour and lecture at Caltech from Michael Lehrer, FAIA, principal of Lehrer Architects. Discussion will include a talk between the architect and the client. This project demonstrates how modern architecture can be integrated into sensitive historic sites in Pasadena resulting in award winning architecture that will give historic preservationists buildings worth protecting in the future!

Learning objectives:

1. How award-winning architecture be thoughtfully integrated into historic sites while avoiding faux historic styles.

2. How modern buildings create hyper-functional environments.

3. How state-of-the-art modern buildings blend interior spaces with exterior spaces creating solar passive architecture aided by active systems heading toward net-zero buildings.

4. How architecture can manage tensions to create the optimum conditions for creativity and interaction.
